What Are Biostimulators And What Do They Do?
12/18/2025
Biostimulators are substances that activate or enhance the body’s natural biological processes, especially to stimulate tissue regeneration, repair, or growth. The term is used across several fields–most notably in aesthetic medicine and regenerative medicine, but the core idea is the same: rather than simply replacing what’s missing (like with fillers or fertilizers), biostimulators encourage the body or system to heal, rebuild, or grow on its own.
Biostimulators used at Georgetown Allure Medical Spa are compounds that are injected into the deep layer of the skin called the dermis. Unlike dermal fillers which simply inject volume, biostimulators work by stimulating new tissue growth, helping the skin to naturally produce its own volume. There is a wide array of different biostimulators, including injectables and non-injectables, such as add-ons incorporated with medical treatments like microneedling.
Biostimulator Injections
Radiesse
Radiesse is an injectable filler that contains calcium hydroxylapatite, or CaHA. These particles integrate into the skin to create a scaffold, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. This results in the smoothing of lines and the promotion of a renewed skin structure for natural-looking results. Radiesse results last about 15 months.
Sculptra
Sculptra is an injectable treatment to help gradually replace lost collagen. It is formulated with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) to help restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin to smooth facial wrinkles. Rather than an “overnight” effect, Sculptra is intended to be performed as a series of up to four injections and could achieve results lasting for up to two full years.
Bistimulator Add-ons to Microneedling
Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN)
Polydeoxyribonucleotide (also known as Rejuran) is a DNA-derived compound that supports skin repair by stimulating collagen production, improving elasticity and hydration, and reducing inflammation. It helps regenerate damaged or aging skin and improves overall skin quality. As an add-on to microneedling, PDRN is absorbed through the microchannels created during treatment, enhancing collagen stimulation, speeding up healing, and reducing redness and downtime, resulting in smoother, healthier-looking skin.
PRF/PRP
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) are treatments derived from your own blood that are rich in growth factors, which stimulate collagen production, tissue repair, and skin rejuvenation. PRF is a newer form that releases growth factors more slowly, offering longer-lasting regenerative effects and improved skin quality. When used as an add-on to microneedling, PRP or PRF is applied topically and delivered through the microchannels created during treatment, boosting collagen stimulation, accelerating healing, reducing inflammation, and enhancing overall skin tone, texture, and radiance with minimal downtime.
Are you bothered by lines, wrinkles and loss of facial volume due to aging or genetics? If so, biostimulators may be a great treatment option. Unlike other injectables that simply restore lost volume with hyaluronic acid- Biostimulators work to trigger your body’s natural production of collagen for natural-looking and prolonged results. Book your appointment today at Georgetown Allure Medical Spa and receive $100 off your first filler treatment!
