What Is BOTOX?
“Botox” is the most popular non-surgical treatment in the United States. The name ‘Botox’ is short for “botulinum toxin,” a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which is found naturally in plants, water and soil. While the treatment is commonly referred to as Botox, this is actually a brand name created by the manufacturer, Allergan. There are actually 4 cosmetic neurotoxins, or neuromodulators, on the market today—Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, & Jeuveau. Botox, and other injectable treatments are sometimes referred to as a “Lunchtime Facelift” - alluding to how quick, hassle-free & low-downtime these treatments are. In addition to Botox, we also offer Jeuveau, Dysport and Xeomin.

How Do BOTOX Treatments Work?
Botox treatment is appropriate for most adults who want to reduce the signs of aging and enjoy a more relaxed, youthful appearance. Botox treats fine lines, folds, wrinkles, frown lines and more! You aren’t a candidate if you are pregnant or nursing, allergic to Botulinum toxin type A, have an active skin infection or inflammation the day of your appointment, or have certain neuromuscular conditions such as Lou Gehrig’s Disease or ALS.
What Are the Benefits of BOTOX?
Visible signs of aging and facial wrinkles can sometimes overshadow our natural features, making us appear older than we truly are. BOTOX is a highly effective option for achieving a smoother, more youthful appearance. While results are temporary, many patients enjoy the rejuvenating effects for several months before choosing to return for a maintenance session.
At Georgetown Allure Medical Spa, BOTOX offers several key benefits:
- Quick Treatment Sessions: BOTOX appointments typically take just 10 minutes, making it easy to fit into even the busiest schedule.
- No Downtime: BOTOX is a non-surgical treatment that allows you to return to your regular activities immediately after your visit.
- Minimal Discomfort: Treatments are performed with a fine needle and generally feel like a quick pinch to the skin.
- Easy Maintenance: For those who want to maintain their refreshed look, follow-up sessions are brief and convenient to incorporate into everyday life.

BOTOX FAQs
How to prepare for your Botox appointment?
Please contact us in order to receive our Pre/Post Instructions. We also send them to you via e-mail upon booking of your injectables appointment.
How is a Botox treatment performed & how does it work?
Here at Georgetown Allure Medical Spa, our Botox and Injectables are administered by our surgeon, Dr. Goodrich. You would have a scheduled consultation where you would discuss your concerns and she will analyze your facial anatomy. Once a treatment plan is agreed upon, your skin is cleansed in the areas of concern with an alcohol wipe. While most people tolerate the injection discomfort well, your doctor might use one or more of various methods available to numb the area, such as topical anesthesia, ice and a vibrating tool which helps to reduce discomfort.
During the procedure your doctor uses a thin needle to inject tiny amounts of Botox into your skin or muscles in a measurement known as “units”. The number of units needed depends on many factors - your anatomy, your goals, and the areas treated. Over the next 3 to 14 days the neurotoxin takes effect gradually. Botox blocks the signals sent from the nerves to the muscles, causing the muscles to relax while inhibiting muscle movement – this can prevent wrinkles from developing or worsening. The skin that lies above the muscle takes on a smoother appearance & the structure of the face can be altered for a desired look - like in the Botox treatment for the masseter muscles to go from a squared jawline, to a v-shaped jawline.
The entire consultation takes 15-20 minutes & a $150 consultation fee is pre-paid at booking and goes towards your treatment the day of your appointment. The consultation fee can only be applied to an injectable treatment administered the day of your appointment - not for any other service or at any other date. You can also have fillers performed in the same consultation. Botox injections have no downtime. You can expect to return to normal activities after the procedure. You need to be cautious to not rub or massage the treated areas. This can cause the toxin to migrate to different areas.
How many units will I need?
In order to know how many units you would need, your face needs to be analyzed by our surgeon. The doctor needs to see your muscles in action, how strong they are, how much movement you have, which muscles will be impacted by treating certain areas, how deep your current lines are, etc. Two people having the same area treated may need different amounts of Botox units injected, for this reason.
How long does it take for Botox to work & how long does its effects last?
The effects of Botox can typically appear as early as three days, with maximum results often seen within two weeks after treatment. Patience is necessary. Its effects are relatively temporary with most people reporting that they regain movement in 3-4 months.
How often should you get Botox?
The frequency of Botox treatments varies from person to person. Most people get Botox every three to six months to maintain their desired results. However, this can differ based on factors like your metabolism, muscle activity and treatment goals. Your health care provider will guide you on the best timing for follow-up treatments to get the desired outcomes.
What are the risks or side effects?
Botox is a relatively safe treatment, but it should always be performed by a qualified medical professional to ensure that you are getting the correct amount in the right area. In the hands of an inexperienced practitioner, it can lead to asymmetrical results, muscle drooping, frozen expressions as well as various other dangerous consequences. If carried out correctly, side effects are generally minimal - occasionally some light bruising or redness around the area of injection might occur, although this shouldn’t last long. If any bruising occurs, they should subside naturally on their own. It is also not recommended to lay down or bend over for the first 6-8 hours after the procedure. Rare side-effects can include difficulty in swallowing, speaking and breathing – if this happens you should seek medical attention immediately.
Can you get Botox while pregnant?
While there’s no evidence that Botox can transfer from mother to child, it’s possible that neurotoxins can be harmful to those allergic to them and for this reason we don’t recommend getting treated while pregnant or breastfeeding.
How much are Botox injections?
Botox treatments are a relatively inexpensive cosmetic procedure. Since it is measured in units, the amount you pay depends on how many units are needed. Depending on your objectives and budget, you can do more or less to fit your needs. Botox is typically not covered by insurance for cosmetic purposes. To know the final cost, it’s best to book a consultation at our spa and our provider will provide an accurate estimate based on your individual treatment plan.
